In May, state regulators conducted a comprehensive four-day inspection of the center’s patient care processes, safety protocols, cleanliness, food service, staff competencies and more. They also reviewed dozens of patient charts and interviewed employees, family members and patients.
The center offers short-term rehabilitation as well as extended care, providing an array of therapies, programs and activities to help residents reach their goals. In January, it opened a respiratory specialty unit that provides specialized ventilator and tracheostomy care. The new 12-bed unit is the only one of its kind in our community.
Only 4 percent of skilled nursing facilities in Florida had deficiency-free inspections in 2013, according to state data.
“The excellent survey results are a confirmation of the Nursing & Rehab Center’s outstanding quality and staff’s commitment to providing residents with the best and safest care,” said Maria DeCarlo, executive director of Post Acute/Rehabilitation Services at Sarasota Memorial.
