Can I breastfeed my baby if I am Hepatitis C-positive?

HepC-BreastfeedingYes! Both The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) state that Hepatitis C is compatible with breastfeeding. Breastfeeding may even help prevent the spread of Hepatitis C from mother to baby by providing antibodies through the breast milk.

Though the baby can be infected with Hepatitis C during pregnancy or delivery, breastfed babies do not have higher rates of Hepatitis C than formula-fed babies.
