02.26.2014 [SMH Extra]

blackhistorymonthSarasota Memorial continues to celebrate Black History Month throughout February. The national theme of this year’s celebration is “Civil Rights in America,” which marks the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

This week, Sarasota Memorial will induct four outstanding employees into the hospital’s Black History Month Hall of Fame. Each year, a committee made up of staff members from departments across the hospital choose the Black History Month Hall of Fame honorees, all of whom were nominated by their colleagues based on their leadership, positive self-image and dedicated service to the community and co-workers.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28 in the hospital auditorium.

In addition to the induction of staff into the Hall of Fame, the event will feature special performances, including soloist Paul Repass of the hospital’s Laboratory, God’s Promises Dance Group, and comedian Justin Goldsmith. Special guest speakers Lt. Col. George E. Hardy, former Tuskegee Airman;  John Walker and Dominique Austin will discuss “then” and “now.”
