Wondering when to call the Doctor?

If you notice the following symptoms of illness in your newborn, don’t hesitate to call your baby’s health care provider:
- Yellow skin or eyes
- No stool for 48 hours and less than 6 wet diapers a day
- Eating poorly or refusing to eat
- Temperature of 100F or more
- Crying excessively with no known cause
- Congested cough, running eyes or running nose
- Redness, drainage or foul odor from the umbilical cord
- Patches of white found in baby’s mouth
- Unusual or severe rash
This is not a comprehensive list, so if you feel your newborn is ill, give your baby’s health care provider a call.
And call 911 if your baby has blue lips or skin or is having difficulty breathing or any other life-threatening symptoms.
