11.23.2010 [Campus Improvements]
Pictured above is the 65-foot drill rig (bright yellow), which recently began drilling 30- and 48-inch piers for the foundation of the new Courtyard Tower. A second 75-foot rig will be on site the week of Nov. 29. When finished, there will be a total of 84 piers drilled to a depth of over 50 feet. The piers (the concrete pillars to the left of the rig) will form the outline of the footprint of the new tower, which is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2013.
Construction work will restrict traffic flow on the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 from Waldemere Street to Arlington Street from 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12 through 5 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14. Last week, a 15-ton concrete beam, approximately 30 feet in length, was removed from the exterior of a former waiting room to make way for the construction of a stairwell, elevator shaft and connector bridge for the hospital’s new Courtyard Tower. The new tower will link to the hospital’s East, Critical Care and South Towers. [...]
If you’ve visited Sarasota Memorial lately, you’ll notice that some buildings are going up, while others are coming down.
