03.29.2010 [Campus Improvements]
Sarasota Memorial’s old energy center is slated for demolition beginning April 12. This week, construction crews, left, are working to remove generators and other equipment before tearing down the facility. Removal of the 1960s-era plant will make way for construction of a new Courtyard Tower at the front of the Sarasota Memorial campus. The hospital’s back-up power and other life-saving utilities now come from a brand-new, state-of-the-art energy center located behind the hospital.
April also will mark the start of construction on a new entrance to the Waldemere Garage. During the project, Waldemere Street and the current garage entrance will remain accessible. Signs will help direct the flow of traffic.
Over the next few months, many changes will be seen as preparation begins to construct the new Courtyard Tower in the front of the hospital.
